Survive College with your Faith Intact (Teacher Led)

Developing a rock solid Christian worldview.

  Enroll in Course

School Year: 2018-19

This course may be the most important that students will take in preparation for college. While taking math, science, english and other classes are critical for entry into college and for well-rounded knowledge, this course will teach them how to retain their Christian faith as it is assaulted class after class. Having a firm foundation of theology will help students make sense of the other disciplines they will learn in college. They will be better equipped to separate truth from error, so that they are susceptible to every 'new' idea that is thrown their way.

Shocking Trend

Statistics show that as many as 70% of students who proclaim to the be Christian prior to college leave the faith as they work their way through college and enter the professional world. While some return to the faith of their young adult life, this is a shocking percentage. This class is designed to stem the tide of those walking away. We do that by teaching three distinct areas: 1) Core Christian beliefs, 2) Competing religions and 3) Competing worldviews they are likely to encounter during their collegiate years.

We will compare religions and worldviews to Christianity so that the student will be able to have confidence that their faith is well placed and to be able to have an informed and rational discussion with someone with a different worldview.

Class Structure

Each week two 30 minute lectures will be uploaded, with some class periods containing slightly more time to cover the material. Each class will also have reading or exercises that should be able to be completed within a reasonable time according to the ability of the student. There will be quizzes spread throughout the year to reinforced and test comprehension. There will also be three writing assignments that will be graded against a rubric which will be posted in advance. The professor will hold regular office hours. These times will be posted at the beginning of the school year that best suits the maximum number of students. The office hours will be conducted live via Google Hangout (or similar platform) in which students can pose questions, get clarifications and interact with each other. Additionally, a chat room will be established for students to interact between office hours.
